Hostel Life Shenanigans

When you live in a hostel you encounter various types of people, different lifestyles, different talking styles, and way too many stories to tell, which is exactly what happens in our dorm room. Closed door, lights off, snacks open, and long nights of talk. Our talks are funny, crazy, stupid, and most of the time senseless; complete and utter nonsense. There are times we go out to eat or just roam around the beautiful city of Jaipur. When you live in a hostel, every day is adventurous. Some days you crave Maggie, some days you crave junk food like Kurkure, and some days you take out your friend’s bag and see what else remains to be eaten.

There are a few incidents and one of them is the day I first met my roommate, Harshil Chauhan. I reached Jaipur to pursue my MBA at ICFAI Business School in Jaipur on the 11th night. I stayed the night alone, setting the room in a way that was comfortable to me, and hopefully my new roommate. On the 12th night, I was going to go to sleep and that’s when I heard a knock on my door, and there, wearing a green T-shirt was a guy standing with only a bag on his shoulder. He came in, we gave each other our introductions, and started talking. While talking I understood this guy was similar to me and we immediately clicked. Since then, we have been together pulling each other’s legs and roasting each other to the lengths that people might think we are abusing each other.

One more incident/adventure was when we went out to eat. We were 7 people who went out and took 1 auto for 4 people and the rest 3 came by bus. We reached the place, but after taking 3-4 detours. That was a long drive, we had to endure, but with friends, it didn’t seem so. We had our snacks/dinner and it was time to head back to the hostel due to our time restrictions. Before heading out and taking an auto we clicked pictures, took dry snacks, and waited for around 10 minutes before an auto was ready to take all 7 of us. Getting seated comfortably posed a challenge to us, we left once we were all seated uncomfortably. After traveling for a while we saw a cart full of mangoes and we stopped for mangoes but were distracted by the red, blushing, and juicy litchee that were calling our names. Once we were done adoring the litchis, we were back on track for our hostel. I kept my maps open just in case he took different routes, which is exactly what he did. We thought we were lost, or something fishy was going to happen, but we were fortunate that nothing happened. But for that drive of an hour, we all had our hearts in our mouths that kept skipping beats.

Hostel Life seems to be fun but is much more than expected.
